Pool, Cleveland, Dickey and Johns each scored twice in the contest. Erb contributed a pair of RBIs and senior Abbey Cowan hit a two-bagger to add another RBI.
Weatherford improves to 11-2 with the win and will hit the road on Tuesday to close out the district schedule, facing Arlington Houston at 6 p.m. The Lady Roos will oppose the third seed from District 4-5A in the Region I bi-district round, at a date and site to be determined.
Roos’ early lead falters with Paschal’s 3-run rally in third
Nick Rodriguez’ second-inning double gave the Weatherford Kangaroos the lead in the second inning on Friday, as WHS tried to put an end to a small losing streak in District 3-5A play.
Unfortunately for the Roos, the early lead was short-lived, as Paschal won the district contest played at Curtis Field, 4-2.
Hayden Rowell picked up an RBI earlier in the second when Mason Priess scored on a fielding error by Paschal. Rowell added the Roos’ second, and final, run of the game when Rodriguez punched the double to centerfield.
A walk, single and hit batsman set up the rally for the Panthers in the next frame, with the telling blow coming on a double after Paschal had tied the game on a wild pitch. Though Weatherford got out of the inning with much less damage than could have occurred, enough had been done.
Beau Burrows, Corey Bynum and Andy Swain combined to hold Paschal scoreless for the balance of the contest, but the Panthers’ tandem of Hunter Spielman and Beau Campbell did the same to the Roo hitters. Spielman had 13 K’s and surrendered just two hits in his 6-inning outing.
The loss represents the third-straight for the Roos, whose defense and pitching remains robust, but have been relegated to winning most games by a small margin.
