Bearcats focused, ready for title match

Aledo football - State Final capsule

(Continued)

“Our kids remember the game, as do their kids,” Buchanan said, “but I don’t see that having an effect on this game.

[Brenham head] Coach Glen West and I are good friends, and our wives are good friends. We serve together on the Texas High School Coaches Association Board of Directors together. He’s a good coach and just a good quality guy. It’s too bad there will be a winner and a loser coming out of this game, and if he was playing someone else besides Aledo I would be pulling for him.”

For the Buchanan family, there is yet another interesting turn to the Aledo-Brenham match-up, (as there was in 2009). Buchanan’s wife, Rebecca, has a slew of relatives from the Brenham area.

“Rebecca’s parents, aunts and uncles have been very supportive of Aledo football during the season, driving up to make regular-season games and playoff games, as well,” Buchanan said. “They keep telling me they will be wearing orange and black to the game on Saturday, so we’ll see.”

Aledo, focused and with all hands on board, is likely the strongest 4A team in Texas, Division I or II, and would be a more-than-worthy match for a major chunk of 5A schools in the state. They are, on both sides of the ball, the most talented Bearcat squad this writer has seen in seven years of coverage. They should collect state title No. 5 on Saturday.

  • Fitting the pieces together

That coaches will move on, due to advancement of career, life changes or a myriad of other influences, is a given. Aledo is not immune to the turnover, but is year-in and year-out apt to experience very modest changes, due to another myriad of positive factors.
