Arlington Martin’s Warriors made a good showing for District 3-5A, earning a berth at the state tournament before bowing out to Fort Bend Dulles in the semifinals. The deep run by Martin bodes well as an affirmation of the level of competition for District 3.

With the Warriors’ loss, the all-district roster was recently released, a listing inundated with apt recognition for the 2013 Weatherford Kangaroos baseball team.

Roo first baseman Dustin Williams made the selection process easy at the district meeting, as he was named the Offensive Player of the Year, nabbing one of four superlative slots claimed by WHS players. Williams finished the regular season with a .576 batting average while knocking in 39 runs. The Oklahoma State commit also showed patience at the plate for the Roos, collecting 24 walks.

On the defensive front, Weatherford Junior catcher Andrew Healey was chosen the top defender for the district. Aside from his acumen behind the plate, Healey also bumped up against a .400 average at the plate and led the Roos with 48 RBIs.

Also receiving superlative honors were Andy Rogers, tagged Newcomer of the Year and Beau Burrows, who was the top sophomore. Burrows was also 2012’s top freshman.
