Brock soars away from Zebras

Staff Report

Brock missed a free throw midway through the first quarter of a Class 2A Region II playoff contest against the Grandview Zebras on Monday — but little else went wrong for the Eagles in the period. The bi-district match, held at Aledo High School, got out of hand early, as Brock’s offense shot a scorching percentage from the tipoff and the Zebras could not solve the Eagle defense.

The opening period was indicative of the balance of the match, with Brock powering to an 81-32 win.

The Grandview offense found little rhythm throughout the night, struggling to get to halfcourt past the Brock press and facing stifling half-court pressure after finding the mid-stripe.

Brock’s starters set a blistering pace and led by 20 by the end of the opening quarter. Head Coach Zach Boxell went to his bench early and platooned his subs, including JV players on the postseason roster, who saw considerable minutes.

Grandview was led in scoring by Jake Massey, with 11 points, and ends its season with an 11-10 record.

The Eagles had a trio of top scorers, with starters Micah Thorten, Lance Ewell and Harris Jowell pouring in 15 points each. Brock improves its overall season record to 26-7 and will play the winner of the Sunnyvale-Howe match in the area round.
