Parker County boys’ teams went 3-2 in the area round of the basketball state playoffs on Thursday and Friday. Look for regional quarterfinal pairing information on-line at www.weatherforddemocrat.com as they are announced.

Millsap keeps second season alive with win over Whitewright

The Millsap Bulldogs again proved the quality of a four seed from a very strong district on Friday, and that they belong in the 2014 state playoffs. The Bulldogs are making the most of their first postseason appearance since 1972. Meeting up with the Whitewright Tigers in a Class 2A Region II area round match, Millsap outlasted its opponent in a modest-scoring contest, advancing to the regional quarterfinal round with a 37-35 win.

The Bulldogs will face a familiar foe at a site and time to be determined, as Ponder, the top seed from District 9-2A, got by Van Alstyne on Friday with a 73-70 win.

Eagles advance to quarterfinal round

The Brock Eagles lived up to their No. 5 coaches poll ranking on Thursday with a 67-36 rout of Sunnyvale in a Class 2A Region II Area match at Mansfield’s Timberview High School.

The outing saw Brock hitting on virtually all cylinders, controlling the boards, very active in the paint, accurate at the perimeter and forcing Raider turnovers.

Though Sunnyvale narrowed a 16-point gap before halftime, the Eagles put the game away in the third quarter with a 15-2 run.

Brock faces Whitesboro in the region quarterfinal round on Monday or Tuesday at a site/time to be determined.

Peaster bows out of playoffs with overtime loss to Bearcats

District 9-2A came within two points of owning the Class 2A Region II quarterfinal round of boys basketball playoffs on Friday as Peaster took on Whitesboro.

Whitesboro, eliminated by Peaster in the area round last season, doled out some vengeance in the 2014 playoff rematch, though it took them an overtime to accomplish the feat.

The Bearcats advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 62-60 win over the Greyhounds at Denton Ryan High School. They will be matched up against Brock in the regional quarterfinal at a site/time to be announced.

Poolville enters the postseason fray with impressive showing over Trojans

Idle in the bi-district round by virtue of its district championship, the Poolville Monarchs, who had played a couple of warm-up games last week, finally took the court in a contest that counted, facing the Windthorst Trojans in a Class 1A Division 1 Region II game played in Jacksboro on Friday.

The Monarchs gained control of the match and cruised to a 66-49 win over Windthorst to advance to the regional quarterfinal round. Poolville will meet Stamford in the next bracket level, who dispatched Valley Mills on Friday, 63-52.
