The Weatherford Kangaroos varsity soccer team hosted the Arlington Bowie Volunteers in the opening match of District 3-5A play on Friday.

In varsity action at Roo Stadium, the WHS boys looked to avenge an earlier tournament loss to the Volunteers, as the two squads battled to get a leg up in early district play.

After a back-and-forth affair featuring several penetrations from both sides, with near-misses on the goal, the Roos and Vols were knotted at 0-0 at the end of regulation play.

As penalty kicks have been put into place by the UIL to decide matches tied at the end of play, there will be no tie games at the varsity level.

The five spot kick-takers for the Roos were Corbin Garner, Payton Reeves, Will Graham, Roberto Garcia and Cristian Ramirez.  In goal for the Roos during the match and in the overtime phase was Trey Rich.

The Vols first attempt was successful, but was answered by a goal from   Garner.

Tied after four kickers, Bowie snuck in a goal on the final attempt and collected the win.

In a point system to supplement won-loss records, the Vols were awarded two points, being tied after regulation and the Roos collected a single point by virtue of forcing the tie, though losing the penalty kick phase. Three points are awarded for a win in regulation. The Roos are 4-5-1 on the season and 0-1 in district play.

The Lady Roos traveled to play the Lady Volunteers, losing a tough match by a 3-2 score.
