The Weatherford-based Mach I Track Club will make its annual trek to the USATF National Junior Olympics meet next week. Coach Lupe Torres, parents and six Mach I runners will travel to Greensboro, N.C., the site of the 2013 nationals.

The track club sends a 4x800-meter relay team to the competition this year in the 11-12 year-old division, consisting of Gracie Morris, Amelia Ingram, Sadie Tharp and Jessica Steele. The girls took second place at the Region 12 meet.

Morris and Tharp will both be competing in the 3000-meter run. Miss Morris will have a busy week ahead of her, as she also will run in the 1500-meter race. She finished first in both the 1500 and 3000 events at the qualifier.

Also running at the nationals are Sarah McAfee, a 1500-meter qualifier in the girls’ 8U division. In the 15-16 girls’ division, Allexus Carr will vie for a medal in the 3000-meter run.

The Mach I Track Club is seeking sponsors to help support the athletes’ trip to Greensboro. Contact Antonio Torres at 817-253-9770. The team will leave on Tuesday for the weeklong meet.
