Lady Roos season ends at bi-district

Staff Report

The Weatherford varsity softball team, co-champs of District 3-5A, suffered a shortened postseason on Friday. Playing Justin Northwest’s Lady Texans, the No. 4 seed from District 4, in a Class 5A, Region I bi-district match at Arlington’s Workman Park, the Lady Roos had a challenge getting runs across the plate, and fell to Northwest, 5-1.

The match was scoreless until the fifth, when Northwest put four runs across. Despite doubles from WHS’ Darrian Ross and Liz Konig, the Lady Roos could not answer with enough runs to close the deficit.

The WHS girls compiled a 13-1 district record and a 28-6 overall mark.

Aledo breaks out in fifth to bounce Waco University in Game 1, 10-0

Staff Report

The Aledo Ladycats put a pair of runs on the board early in the first game of a best-of-three series against Waco’s University High on Friday, in a game played at Ladycats Field at Aledo High School. The Class 4A, Region I bi-district match stayed at a 2-0 count for the next three innings,  as the Ladycats hitters made contact but were held in check by the University defense.

Meanwhile, Aledo pitcher Lauren Craine was in control in the circle, as University managed just one hit off of the senior hurler. Craine allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out eight during her five innings of work.

Sparked by a Lady Trojans error to start the fifth, Aledo’s bats went to work, marking an eventual run-rule, walk-off 10-0 win. Alex Cook and Allie Ramsey had doubles in the game-ending inning, supplemented by four singles and aggressive base running.

Game 2 was set for 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Pojo postseason ends in Mineral Wells

Staff Report

After the Springtown Lady Porcupines matched an early run by Iowa Park in the sixth inning Friday, at a Class 3A, Region I bi-district game in Mineral Wells, the Lady Hawks answered with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth, too much for Springtown to overcome in their single at bat of the seventh.
