The Weatherford Kangaroos assured a runner-up designation for postseason bracket positioning with a 8-0 win over Arlington Bowie on Saturday at Raymond E. Curtis Field.
While starting pitcher Beau Burrows was perplexing the Volunteers at the plate, allowing just three hits and striking out nine, the Roo hitters were all over Bowie’s pitching staff.
Will Young led the Weatherford offense, hitting 2-for-3, while blasting a 3-run homer into right field in the bottom of the sixth, effectively dashing any Bowie hopes of a late rally. Young had four runs batted in for the game.
Andrew Healy and Grayson Huffman also had RBI-producing hits, finishing with one each. The Roos banged out seven hits.
With both teams finishing District 3-5A play at 11-3, WHS’ second seed matches them with third-seed Richland from District 4. Bowie will face Keller Fossil Ridge, the No. 2 seed.
Weatherford and the Richland Rebels (9-5) will play a best-of-three series, beginning on Thursday. The Roos will travel to play at Richland for Game 1, set for a 7 p.m. start. The second match will return to Weatherford, also beginning at 7 p.m.
If a rubber match is necessary, a neutral site will be considered. If none is available, a coin flip will decide home field for a Saturday game, tentatively set for 3 p.m.
