WC heads to National tourney with win over North Central Texas

— After two close games in its opening rounds of the NJCAA Region 5 North Regional Tournament, the Weatherford College Coyotes softball team cruised to an 8-2 win over North Central Texas College behind a 14-hit barrage at Texas Women's University in Denton on Sunday.

WC shortstop Katy Vandewater had two hits, both for extra bases, accounting for five WC's seven RBIs. The sophomore had a double and a home run. Luci Ponce and Kylee Studioso also stroked two-baggers in the tourney's championship match.

Studioso took the win in the circle, pitching a complete-game surrendering just four hits while striking out seven NCTC batters.

As regional tourney champions, WC earned an entry in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament, set for May 15 - 18. The 16-team tourney will be held at the Canyons Complex in St. George, Utah.
