Lady Hounds run table on Grandview after early slip

Aledo sweeps Burleson Centennial, moves to area round

The Peaster Lady Greyhounds created enough smooth sailing with efficient play on Tuesday to overcome interspersed rough spots, as they won their first-round playoff match against Grandview. The Class 2A, Region II bi-district contest was settled in four sets, 14-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-18.

Though notching the win to move on to the area round, Peaster head coach Autumn Threet assessment of the match suggested a level of play well below the Lady Hounds’ capabilities.

“It was a rough four games for us,” Threet said, “and I really don’t think we played well, pretty much the whole time.

“Obviously we played well enough to win, but it seemed like we had a hard time shaking the playoff jitters.”

After dropping the opening game, the Lady Hounds began to put together more coordinated attacks and, coupled with Grandview’s own inconsistencies, handily evened the match at one set apiece. The final two games were heavily contested, with Peaster finding enough offense to beat back the Lady Zebras’ rallies, particularly in the third stanza, when Grandview put together an 11-4 run before Peaster closed them out, 25-23.

“I am hoping, now that we have a playoff game under our belts, we will [be more relaxed] for the next round,” Threet said. “[Pilot Point] was here watching us tonight, and one good thing we can take away from tonight is that they didn’t see us at our best, and don’t know how really good we can be.”

Peaster will meet Pilot Point (winner of District 12) on Thursday at Byron Nelson High School. First serve for the Area match is set for 7 p.m.

Aledo made its first foray into the 2012 state playoffs on Tuesday, as well, in Class 4A, Region I play. Facing Burleson Centennial, the Ladycats swept their bi-district match, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16. Aledo is set to play Denton High in the Area round  on Friday at Brewer High School. The match will begin  at 6:30 p.m.

After sitting out their respective bi-district rounds, Springtown and Brock are set to enter the postseason. The Lady Porcupines travel to Stephenville High School on Thursday to play a Class 3A, Region I Area match against the Llano Lady Jackets, who knocked off Glen Rose in the bi-district round. Game time is at 7 p.m.

Sunnyvale’s win over Whitesboro earned the Lady Raiders a meeting with Brock in the Class 2A, Region II Area round. The match will be played at the Burleson Centennial High School gymnasium. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
