Lady Roos fall to Arlington in four gruelling sets

In a District 3-5A match that could well have gone either way, Weatherford and Arlington battled to tight finishes in each of four games, with the bitter end eventually falling in the Lady Colts favor.

With a resulting point separation of no more than three in each set, the Lady Roos fell to Arlington High 23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 27-29.

Emma Murphy led the WHS girls with 10 kills and 29 digs. Sarah Schwartz had 13 kills and as many digs, with Cooper Mullins and Hannah Schwartz handing out 16 assists each. Hannah Wright also was of significant help on defense with 23 digs.


Aledo sweeps through another District 7-4A foe

Staff Report

The Aledo Ladycats varsity volleyball team completed the first round of district play on Friday, routing the Fort Worth South Hills Lady Scorpions, 25-6, 25-6, 25-10.

Improving to a 7-0 league mark, Aledo has also built a 21-0 game count in the stretch.

The Ladycats travel to Granbury on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. match.


Lady Porcupines notch 3-0 district record with sweep over Mineral Wells

Staff Report

Ashley Mainord’s 11 kills paced Springtown to a dominating 25-12, 25-8, 25-9 win over Mineral Wells on Friday. Head coach Leighanne Strickland emptied the bench with everyone contributing as Pojo beat the Lady Rams in minimum sets.

Shelbi Meek and Brooklyn Dauenhauer added eight and seven kills respectively, and Meek was the assists leader with 21.

Springtown travels to play Lake Worth on Tuesday, then hosts Kennedale on Friday in a likely meeting of District 6-3A’s undefeated teams.

    The Aledo varsity girls golf team won the Class 4A Region I Golf Tournament in Abilene last week. The team of Cheyenne Knight, Taylor Brookshire, Savannah Moody, Quincy Ballard, and Taryn Pittman beat runner-up Byron Nelson by 48 strokes.
