After bouncing back from a loss on Thursday to assure another day of life in bracket play, Friday and Lake Land College, provided the Weatherford College softball team with a tough row to hoe — a bit too tough. The Lakers bats came out blazing, as they put up four runs in the first two innings.

Conversely, for the first time in the NJCAA tourney, played at the Canyon Complex in St. George, Utah, WC’s bats were silenced through the first four frames. The Coyotes finally put up a run in  the fifth, not enough to avoid a premature end to the contest, which WC lost 10-1.

WC, playing in the field of the NJCAA, Division I elite in just its second year of existence, went 2-2 during its stay in St. George.

Facing elimination in its second game on Thursday, the Coyotes rose to the occasion, putting up five runs in the third inning en route to a 9-1 victory to set up the match on Friday.

WC compiled a 49-8 record in 2013.
