WC softball sweeps Cisco with 22-run day
CISCO – The Weatherford College softball team got a much-needed conference sweep Wednesday, beating Cisco College on the road, 10-4 and 12-5.
The teams traded leads five times in game one, but a four-RBI, three-hit day by Carlie Jenkins helped the Coyote offense put Cisco away. WC scored three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings. Cisco helped matters with five errors in the seven-inning game.
In game two, Lauren Gunter hit two home runs to lead the WC offense. The freshman catcher from Crowley went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Her home runs came in the third and fourth innings. The Coyotes had 14 hits and eight extra base hits in the second game.
Weatherford (23-16 overall, 13-9 in conference) travels to Waco Saturday to face McLennan College.
Coyotes split with Ranger
RANGER – Weatherford College’s baseball team split with Ranger College in a conference doubleheader Wednesday, winning 5-1 and then losing 7-2 at Ellis Burks Field.
Tejay Antone was impressive on the mound in game one, allowing no earned runs and four hits over six innings while throwing 11 strikeouts for the Coyotes. Quinton Rohrbaugh was 2-for-4 at the plate, including a triple in the fifth inning.
WC’s Daniel Williams homered in the third inning of game two, but Ranger’s 16 hits were too much to overcome. WC had three errors in the second game.
The Coyotes (22-19 overall, 7-11 in conference) will host Ranger Saturday at Roger Williams Ballpark for another doubleheader, which begins at 5 p.m.
