O’Brien no-hits Lady Texans in District 3-5A finale
Kelso O’Brien struck out nine batters while allowing just two walks and no hits through five innings as the Lady Roos concluded its regular softball schedule for 2014 on Tuesday, in Arlington. Weatherford won the game over Arlington Sam Houston, 12-0.
The junior pitcher also aided her own effort tallying four RBIs to lead the WHS girls.
Six runs in the opening three innings allowed the Lady Roos to easily outpace Houston’s offense. An RBI double by Liz Konig and a two-run home run by Abbey Cowan took care of the first three runs in the first. O’Brien’s second-inning double produced another pair of runs.
The six-run surge in the fifth halted the contest in the bottom half of the frame when the Lady Texans failed to score.
The Lady Roos finish district in second place as they prepare to enter the playoffs. Their bi-district opponent, date and site are to be determined.
Bearcats fall to Southwest, 7-4
Leading 4-2 into the seventh inning, Aledo failed to hold off a spate of singles by the Fort Worth Southwest hitters, resulting in a 7-4 loss in a District 7-4A game played at Bearcats Field on Friday.
After an error, a catcher’s interference and a walk loaded the bags for the Raiders with no outs, three consecutive singles put Southwest ahead. Before the Bearcats could get out of the inning, the Raiders had put up five runs.
