Early runs carry Lady Eagles to win over Boyd
The Brock Lady Eagles got off to a rousing start in their first at bat in their District 9-2A finale on Friday, scoring four runs. As it turned out, the four runs proved crucial, as the Boyd Lady Jackets refused to concede the win easily.
Boyd answered with a pair of runs in the next inning and tenaciously kept scoring through four of the five next frames, but Brock put up enough offense to take the win, 8-5. The game featured a combined 28 hits.
Senior Haley Hardison had the hottest bat for Brock’s much-needed offense, going 4-for-4 at the plate, including a double. Mikayla Smith had three hits, including a triple and drove home two runs.
Brock secures the second seed in the playoffs and will play its bi-district match against an opponent to be named.
