The Brock tennis duo of Tyler Davis and Hana Folse captured the UIL Class 2A Mixed Doubles State Championship with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win over the team from Wall at the State Tournament held at Texas A&M University, Monday and Tuesday.
The Brock pair dominated the White Oak team, 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, setting up their semifinal match against the defending state champs from Tulia. The brother-sister team of Jaxton and Madison Hoelting fell to the Eagles team 6-2, 6-3, who went on to dispatch Wall for the title.
In other state tourney action, the girls doubles team of Tobi Prater and Alex Rubio defeated Olton in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-3, before losing to the eventual state champions from Lago Vista 7-5, 6-1. Prater and Rubio brought home third-place medals.
Brock’s Brandon Neff and Bailey Nichols lost their quarterfinal match in split sets to the Kountze pair by a score of 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-2.
In boys singles Clayton Boles drew defending state champ Reese Cook of Jim Ned in the first round, falling in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
