Lady Roos’ O’Brien tops in District 3-5A field

— Staff Report

With a 20-2 season record in the circle, paired with a .506 average in the batter’s box, Weatherford’s Kelsey ‘Kelso’ O’Brien was a strong choice as the Most Valuable Player from District 3-5A softball.

O’Brien was second among the Lady Roos in slugging percentage (.688) and led the team in on-base percentage (.604).

The Lady Roos had four players with First Team honors, led by senior infielders Kelsey Horton and Tawnye Bramlett, who are both headed to play at the next level in the fall.

Other seniors (now WHS grads) named to the all-district squad were outfielder Lauren Leach and pitcher Darrian Ross.

There were 10 Weatherford players who were named to the A-D rolls, along with eight who received all-academic recognition.

Lady Roo head coach Ty Comstock will be happy to welcome back the half-dozen underclassmen who were named to the all-district squad, as the WHS girls vie for yet another district championship in 2014.

“I just love the running,” Tharp said.
