Summer athletic camps — June

Staff Report

A week of athletic camps has concluded but there is a plethora of summer fare left  — for June, alone. The listings below are offered to prompt interested parties to ISD websites for more detailed information regarding the camps, to access sign-up forms and/or to provide contact info for the directors or administrators for each camp.

Although walk-ups on the first morning of camps is welcomed, interested parties are urged to pre-register, if possible, to take advantage of any cost benefit that may be available, but to also assure the camps are sufficiently staffed.

The weeklong Roo basketball camp set for June 17-21, for boys and girls, returns this summer as head girls coach Darryn Shearmire teams up with Weatherford’s newly-hired boys coach, Brian Miller. Miller comes to the Roo program with the reputation as a passionate coach with drive and a penchant for innovation.

Shearmire and former head coach Terry Ferguson, who will frequent WHS classrooms as the Social Studies Department Head in 2013-14, directed a successful merging of the camps last year. Shearmire and Miller, who coached together at Grapevine for a couple of years, aspire to perpetuate the success of last summer.

July camps are just around the corner and will be included in the camp listing next weekend.

Editor’s note to coaches/ISDs: If you have camps not included herein and are not listed on your school’s website, and would like to have listed weekly, send information to sports@weatherforddemocrat.com.
