Weatherford’s Riney no-hits North Crowley

Staff Report

Kangaroos hurler Matt Riney threw a no-hitter on Tuesday, picking up his fifth win of the season on the mound, in grand fashion. The senior right-hander had four strikeouts and a lone walk on the night, letting the defense behind take care of the balls put into play. Playing on the road, the Roos beat North Crowley, 10-0.

Weatherford was led on offense by a stellar game from Andrew Healy. The catcher had three hits, including a double and a home run en route to four RBIs. Mitchell Dworsky also had a 3-hit game, driving home two runners.

Weatherford also benefitted from hits by Dustin Williams, Andy Rogers, Will Young, Grayson Huffman, Beau Burrows, Chris Pohl and Cory Bynum (a double, two RBIs). The Roos, who will host Arlington Lamar in a District 3-5A match on Tuesday at 7 p.m., improved to 4-1 in district play, and are 18-2-1 on the season.

Bearcats bust out in fourth inning, record District 7-4A win over Southwest

Staff Report

In a game otherwise controlled by pitching and defense at Bearcat Field on Friday, the fourth frame was an anomaly — but a very good departure for Aledo. Down two runs after Fort Worth Southwest added a score in the top of the fourth, the Bearcats went on a two-out rampage, scoring nine runs en route to a 10-2 district victory over the Raiders. Aledo took advantage of five walks, three hits and a Southwest error during the rally.

Chris Reed started on the mound for Aledo, striking out seven Raider batters while giving up a single earned run, and was spelled in the fifth frame by Mark Swift, who held Southwest scoreless over the last three innings. Both pitchers scattered six hits in the contest.

Also banging out a half dozen hits, the opportunistic Aledo offense was led by  Caleb Frysinger’s two hits, who scored a run and had an RBI. Tyson Mauser crossed the plate twice and was credited with a pair of runs batted in.

  • Fitting the pieces together

That coaches will move on, due to advancement of career, life changes or a myriad of other influences, is a given. Aledo is not immune to the turnover, but is year-in and year-out apt to experience very modest changes, due to another myriad of positive factors.
