Burrows, Swain blank Warriors in district win

Zach Rodriguez’ 7th-inning walk set the wheels in motion for a walk-off win on Tuesday at Raymond E. Curtis Field, as the Weatherford Kangaroos took the first-round match over the Arlington Martin Warriors, 1-0.

The scoreless tie was broken when pinch-runner Collin Belcher scored on Nick Rodriguez’ ground ball to shortstop with two outs.

Beau Burrows struck out 10 batters while scattering four Martin hits through five and a third innings. Andy Swain fanned four and surrendered a lone single to close out the contest and collect the win.

The Roos improve to 2-0 in District 3-5A play and travel to meet Arlington High on Friday, with a 7 p.m. start.

Fourth-frame surge puts early end to Aledo-South Hills tilt

Leading 6-2 entering the bottom of the fourth inning on Tuesday at Bearcats Field, a combination of hits, walks and passed balls netted Aledo nine runs in the frame. Failing to score the top of the fifth, The Scorpions were run-ruled by Aledo, 15-2, in a District 7-4A contest.

Connor Duer and Hershel Gardner had two hits apiece in the shortened match. Gardner collected three RBIs.

Shane Mosiello  got the start and the win for the Bearcats, giving up a single hit. Chris Reed performed mop-up duty.

Aledo was slated to play O.D. Wyatt on Thursday. The Bearcats are 2-1 in district play.

Millsap scores first, Brock answers big

A leadoff double followed by a run-scoring single got the Millsap Bulldogs off to a good start on Tuesday, in a District 9-2A game played at Brock High School. But the three runs Millsap scored in the top of the opening inning produced a short-lived lead, as Brock’s Eagles responded with four in the bottom frame, with many more to come. The result was a 20-3 rout by the Eagles in a game lasting just four and a half innings.
