Of the area schools, especially those possibly relative to Aledo’s future, only a pair got the opportunity to settle pairings over the weekend. Though Mesquite Poteet may now have misgivings about the decision to charge into the freezing precipitation, the Class 4A Division II foe for half of the semifinal pairing has been determined. The Ennis Lions were trailing at halftime Thursday at Dallas’ Kincaide Stadium, but picks and a dose of running changed all that after the break, with Ennis beating the Pirates, 43-21.
Poteet’s usually-proficient pass game came unhinged in the second half, as the Lions’ defensive backs put up three consecutive scores with pick-six touchdowns. All three were for more than 50 yards.
Coupled with the Lions ground attack, the Pirates suffered the short end of the romp in the ice.
Aledo had coach Tim Buchanan distributed an update via email on Friday which stated that virtually all stadiums within 60 miles had one to three inches of ice. At press time on Saturday, the site and time for the Monday reschedule had not been announced.
