BROCK — Friday night’s game between Brock and Fort Worth Christian looked to be all but over at halftime, with the Eagles trailing, 35-0.
Despite the hole, the Eagles kept on fighting, turning the game into a better competitive battle with a scoring burst in the fourth quarter.
After holding the Cardinals scoreless in the third quarter, the Brock defense recovered a fumble in their own territory to start their first scoring drive.
With big gains on completions from quarterback Seth Boleman to receiver Lance Ewell, Leddy French finished off the job, finding the end zone on a 4-yard carry. Klay Marr’s point-after made it 35-7 with less than seven minutes to play.
Two plays later, the Brock defense stepped up again, recovering another fumble, this time inside FWC territory. Boleman’s 13-yard pass to Ewell kick-started the drive and using the legs of French, the Eagles scored again on his 8-yard run with 57 seconds left for the final score of the game.
The Cardinals’ offense came out hot and on a mission, scoring on all four of their drives in the first quarter to take a commanding 28-0 lead.
Caleb Stone and Jack Roberson had big runs, for 48 and 66 yards, followed by a 47-yard connection from Blaze Brownlow to Michael Burgess. Stone added another 15-yard run, and kicker Jake Kane made all four of the point-afters.
After a four-game win streak that saw Brock dominate the scoring at an average clip of 45-12, the loss puts the Eagles at 5-2 on the season.
Though initially slated for a home game with Dallas’ Prime Prep Academy on Oct. 18, that meeting has been cancelled and no replacement has been announced, which results in a bye week for the Eagles.
Brock’s next game is scheduled in Sweetwater on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Eagles will play Tornillo in a 2 p.m. game.
