Fisher wins at Alpine; WC rodeo team at halfway mark

ALPINE, Tex.  –  Weatherford College’s Forrest Fisher won the Men’s All-Around Champion title at the Sul Ross State University Rodeo October 24-26.

Fisher, a freshman from Navasota, won first place in team roping with Tarleton State’s Colton Herrera and finished tenth in Tie-Down Roping after earning third place points in the first round. He earned a combined 170 points.

Fisher has placed at four of the semester’s five rodeos and is now ranked second in the region’s Team Roping-Header standings, trailing WC teammate Casey Tew by 15 points.

Sophomore Jared Parsonage won second place in Bull Riding, marking the third rodeo in a row he has placed third or better. Parsonage is third in the Southwest Region.

Paul Melvin is also in the mix for the regional championship, ranked second in Steer Wrestling after a second place finish in Alpine.  Weatherford High School product Seth Cooke won third in Steer Wrestling; while Flint, Tex. freshman Cole Wheeler moved into sixth place by placing second in Team Roping in the first go.

The WC men finished second in the overall team standings at Sul Ross. The men are second in the region halfway through the season, trailing Tarleton State. The top two teams will advance to the College National Finals Rodeo at the end of the season.

On the women’s side, WC’s Lexi Heater won first place in Barrel Racing after taking second in the first go and first in the short go.

Former Lady Roo Deven Riggins won second place in Breakaway Roping, making the finals in each of her three events at least once this semester.

Sarah Ingle finished fifth in Breakaway Roping,  and Brooke Sully took tenth in Goat Tying.

The WC women are ranked fifth in the region at the halfway mark, trailing Eastern New Mexico, Texas Tech, Tarleton and South Plains.

Rodeo action resumes March 20-21 at the Ranger College/Weatherford College Rodeo in Brownwood.
