Weatherford head coach Natalie Gonzales was pleased with the calibre of teams the Granbury Tournament provided Friday and Saturday, describing the level of competition as “awesome,” a prime goal every coach seeks for pre-district play.
Gonzales complimented her players after Friday’s opening matches, which placed them in the bronze bracket for Saturday.
“I told the girls I wasn’t upset at the end of pool play, at all, because this was the first time we played really good teams back to back to back.
“Just to know we are competing well, win or lose is an awesome sign.”
Saturday, WHS drew defending Class 3A champ Abilene Wylie, and came up short.
But the Lady Roos, bolstered by a killer spike from Maddie Dorris early on, dominated Haltom in two straight sets to capture third-place in their bracket.
The Weatherford volleyball teams are back on the court on Tuesday, against Cleburne. The ninth-grade A-team and JV play at 5:30 p.m., with the ninth-grade B squad and varsity taking their respective courts at 6:30 p.m.
