Game notes: With Paschal traveling to play at Arlington Lamar, and the Vikings vying for the fourth playoff slot, Arlington Houston and Weatherford are not playing to stay out of the District 3-5A cellar, but rather to end their season on a positive note.

Although the emotional scale may be tipped toward the Texans on their Senior Night, Sam Houston remains a very beatable team, with a volatile passing game should their  ground attack stall. Andrew Alavarado is the speed demon in the Texan backfield, but most of the rushing totals of note are spread among four runners, including quarterback Ervin Hill.

Giving up nearly 40 points per game on the year, the perhaps skewed number includes the top four teams of the district heap, and is a much more modest number in their contests against North Crowley and Paschal, with a 10-point average.

The Roo offense should move the ball well against Houston, and need only show diligence in protecting the pigskin. Led by defensive stalwarts Slade Hodge and Dalton Clubb, the Roos should be able to keep the score at a manageable level.

Aledo vs. FW Trimble Tech

Time: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Site: Bearcat Stadium

Type: District 7-4A finale, Parent/Senior Night

Last year: Did not play

Trimble Tech Bulldogs

(1-8, 0-6)

Last year: 4-6 overall, 3-6 in District 8-4A

Last week: Lost to OD Wyatt, 34-14

Players to watch: DE Percell Coleman, QB Jerrick McLain, RB DJ McMillan.

Aledo Bearcats (8-1, 6-0)

Last year: 14-2 overall, 7-0 in District 5-4A

                  Class 4A, DII state champs

Last week: Beat Granbury, 63-0

Players to watch: LB Gunner Johnson, WR Willie Gibson, FS Shea Wood, SS Clayton Lowe, LB Jordan Mittie, QB Pate Davis, RB Caleb Frysinger, RB  Jess Anders.

Game notes: If Trimble Tech’s confidence meter is anywhere near halfway up the dial heading into its final game of the season, the Bulldogs’ coaching staff could likely succeed very well conducting infomercials on positive thinking methods. The prospect of facing Aledo (the top of the totem pole) from the bottom of the heap cannot be a pleasant one, regardless of how much one loves the game.

Aledo coach Tim Buchanan and staff historically do a good job of keeping player focus on the task at hand. But this Bearcat group, who will be on a personal mission to make its own mark in Class 4A postseason, may display some antsy tendencies to get the playoff roll going. Senior Night may help keep the leaders grounded, but fans may want to look quick to see many seniors on the field Friday — for very long, especially on the offensive side of the ball, such as the O-line.

Expect Aledo coaches to empty the bench and turn the starters into an involved pep squad by the second half.

Millsap vs. Blooming Grove

Time: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Site: Bulldog Stadium

Type: District 6-2A finale, Senior Night

Last year’s result: Did not play.

Blooming Grove Lions

(6-3, 3-3)

Last year: 4-6 overall, 1-4 in District 6-2A

Last week: Lost to Rio Vista, 44-30

Players to watch: QB Jayd Kirby, RB/LB Tyler Morris, RB/DB Travis Whiteside, RB/DB Brandon Hays, WR/K Tyler Ellis.

Millsap Bulldogs (0-9, 0-6)

Last year: 3-7 overall, 1-5 in District 4-2A

Last week: Lost to Scurry-Rosser, 75-7

Players to watch: OL/DL Payton Vandeveer, WR/DB Shawn Harper, OL/DL Mitchell Coker, WR/DB Daulton Thomas, RB Kristian Martinez

Game notes: Blooming Grove’s playoff chances aren’t as promising after falling to Rio Vista last week, but they will want to add to their statistical chance on Friday. Jayd Kirby is the Lions’ catalyst, rushing for 1,386 and passing for 1,082, and has accounted for 27 TDs.

Millsap’s Senior Night will be no doubt be a bittersweet affair. One of the few 2013 grads, double-duty lineman Andrew Norman, would love to tuck away an upset in the memory banks, at the end of his football career.
