Former Coyote Arrieta traded from Orioles to Cubs

Staff Report

Former Weatherford College baseball player Jake Arrieta has been traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Chicago Cubs. Arrieta was part of a three-player deal that also included former Texas Ranger Scott Feldman, who will now be an Oriole.

Cubs officials say Arrieta will be sent to Chicago’s Triple A affiliate in Iowa for the time being. The former Coyote pitched 69 games over four seasons for the Orioles, going 20-25 with a 5.46 ERA. He was the Orioles’ opening day starter last season.

The Plano East product played for Weatherford College in 2005. He went on to TCU, earning Pitcher of the Year honors in the Mountain West Conference and played for Team USA in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Arrieta is one of three former WC players to make the Major Leagues, including German Duran (Texas Rangers) and Ryan Brasier (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim).
