Lady Pats finish second in state

The Victory Baptist Academy Lady Patriots’ basketball team finished second in the Division II Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship state championship tournament last weekend.

The Lady Patriots began their battle for the state title with a 64-30 win at home against Irving’s Faustina Academy on Thursday. Seniors Tirzah Pool and Jessica Hamilton were Victory’s leading scorers, 24 and 19 points, respectively.

On Friday, the Lady Patriots took on St. Paul’s Preparatory School of Arlington in the state semifinal game, held at Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park.

VBA won the game 42-27, marking the third time VBA has played and defeated SPPS this season. Pool and Hamilton were again the leading scorers, with Pool scoring 17 points and Hamilton scoring 12.

On Saturdy,Victory faced off against Lakewood Presbyterian School of Dallas for the state championship game, losing 30-17. Lakewood was the defending state champion and only lost one game during the 2012-2013 season.

Hamilton and Pool were named to the TCAF All-Tournament team following the championship game, and the Lady Patriots finished their season with a 17-6 record in their first season at the varsity level.

In its sixth year, Victory Baptist Academy is located on the campus of Victory Baptist Church in Weatherford.
