Loftin named APC MVP

Aledo Bearcats quarterback Cole Loftin is not the biggest or fastest player on the roster, but he was certainly the most productive during the 2007 season, making him the 2007 Weatherford Democrat All-Parker County Team MVP.

The senior quarterback did most of his damage with his legs, gaining 1,559 yards on 209 attempts with 21 touchdowns. Loftin averaged 7.46 yards per carry and 111.4 yards per game. He also made plays with his arm.

Loftin completed 78-of-128 pass attempts for 1,157 yards with 12 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

When Loftin was running or throwing the ball on offense, he was catching it. Loftin hauled in 14 passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns.

He also found time to help out on defense and special teams.

Loftin recorded 17 tackles and grabbed four interceptions on defense. He also recorded eight punt returns for 147 yards and a touchdown and eight kick returns for 114 yards.

Joining Loftin was teammate Blane Cheatham who was awarded APC Defensive MVP.

Cheatham was the leading tackler in Parker County with 184 stops, 99 of them being solo tackles. He also recorded five sacks, caused nine fumbles and recovered a fumble.

Springtown quarterback Kyle Wilson was selected APC Offensive MVP for his production at the helm of the Porcupines.

Wilson completed 138-of-291 pass attempts for 1,689 yards with 16 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also contributed to the offensive success of Springtown with his legs. Wilson gained 772 yards and scored 10 touchdowns on 161 attempts.

Porcupines head coach Brad Turner was selected as APC Coach of the Year after leading his team to four consecutive district wins and a playoff berth, in only his second season as head coach of the Porcupines, after opening the 2007 season with five consecutive losses.

Chris Jackson of Weatherford was named APC First-Team quarterback after stepping into the role on a more permanent basis in the fourth game of the season.

Jackson finished the season completing 17-of-38 attempts for 389 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 52 attempts.

Raphael Kubrak of Springtown and Austin Stockon of Aledo were named to first-team running backs.

Kubrak lead the Porcupines ground attack, gaining 828 yards and scoring seven touchdowns on 143 attempts. Stockon was the second leading rusher for the Bearcats behind Loftin, finishing with 827 yards and six touchdowns on 125 attempts.

Rhett Ballard and Clayton Cooper of Springtown combined with Ryan McGuire of Aledo to make up the APC First-Team receiving corps.

Ballard caught 31 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns, while Cooper hauled in 34 passes for 506 yards and five touchdowns. McGuire, although listed as a running back, was the third leading receiver in the area, catching 32 passes for 445 yards with three touchdowns and he also rushed for 631 yards on 109 attempts with 15 touchdowns.

Ethan McMillan and Daniel Meyer of Aledo, Drew Hummel of Weatherford, Dan Davidson of Millsap and D.J. Correll of Springtown were selected as APC First-Team lineman.

Chase Rutherford and Kenton Day of Aledo were selected APC First-Team kicker and kick returner. Day returned two kicks for touchdowns on the year.

Leading the first team defense is Weatherford defensive lineman Kapron Lewis-Moore, Springtown defensive linemen Ty Burtnett and RJ Wilson and Aledo defensive lineman Jon Koontz.

Lewis-Moore recorded 45 tackles, four sacks and caused a fumble for the Roos. Burtnett was a force for the Porcupines with 85 tackles, while RJ Wilson recorded 54 stops for Springtown. Koontz finished the year with 73 tackles, one sack, two fumble recoveries and one caused fumble.

The APC First-Team linebackers were Danny Heiss of Aledo, Matt Pierce of Springtown and Matt Varnado of Millsap.

Heiss had 98 stops and two sacks for the Bearcats. Pierce led the Porcupines defense with 87 tackles. Varnado was big for the Bulldogs’ defense with 76 tackles and an interception.

Kenton Day and Jesse Wright of Aledo, Isaiah Busby of Weatherford and Iggy Apolinar were selected first-team defensive backs.

Day led Parker County with six interceptions, four of which were returned for touchdowns. He also recorded 46 tackles and broke up 15 passes. Wright was the second leading tackler for Aledo with 102 stops. He had one sack, one interception, recovered four fumbles and caused another. Busby was the defensive leader for Weatherford with 73 tackles and four interceptions. Apolinar came up big for the Springtown defense with 71 tackles and three interceptions.

The APC First-Team punter is Nathan Hull of Weatherford.

Hull punted 24 times for 892 yards for a 37.2 yards per punt average. His long was 51 yards.

The APC Second-Team offense is led by Aledo quarterback Brady Thomas. Joining Thomas in the backfield are Mitchel Rucker and Fred Thomas of Weatherford.

Aaron Corby and Kenton Day of Aledo and Ryan Marley of Weatherford make up the second-team receiving corps.

APC Second-Team offensive linemen are Dalton Love of Weatherford, Jordan Smith and Brandon Law of Aledo, J.D. Mattix of Springtown and Reid Plowman of Millsap.

The second-team kicker and kick returner are Nathan Hull and Isaiah Busby of Weatherford respectively.

The APC Second-Team defense is led by defensive linemen Drew Salazar of Weatherford, D.J. Lamance of Springtown, Judd Meadows of Aledo and Robert Martinez of Millsap.

The second-team linebackers are Trace Pawelek and Tyler McDowell of Springtown and Kyle Stitle of Aledo.

The APC Second-Team defensive backs are Derek Ogg and Zach Henderson of Weatherford and Jack Bryant and Joel Hasley of Aledo.

The second-team punter is Joseph Srader of Millsap.

The APC Honorable Mention offense is made up of Dakota Abernathy and Chris Fielder of Weatherford, Jacob Free and Ramon Ruiz of Millsap and Andrew Haddock, Justin McNeely and Casey Callaway of Springtown.

The APC Honorable Mention defense is made up of Tyler O’Doherty and Calvin Jones of Aledo, Duell Patterson of Millsap, Brian Bolling and Al Owens of Springtown and Colton Matlock and Stuart O’Neal of Weatherford.
