Weeping girl’s 911 call leads to man’s arrest

Suspect charged with felony sexual indecency with a child

By JUDY SHERIDAN

ALEDO – An Aledo man is being held in the Parker County Jail without bond on charges of indecency with a child by sexual contact after a weeping 10-year-old child called to report an alleged fondling incident.

The charge, which stems from a Nov. 27 incident according to the affidavit, is a second-degree felony.

Fernando Zavala, 51, was arrested by Parker County Sheriff’s Office deputies Dec. 3 after an elementary school-age girl called 911 to report he had touched her, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Zavala was being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement early last week, according to the sheriff’s office website.

Deputies who arrived on the scene said the girl told them she was playing with an electronic book reader when the defendant began to pull down her leggings and “touched her down there,” the affidavit states.

The deputies contacted the victim’s mother, the affidavit states, who came to the location and, after talking to the girl, told deputies the girl said the defendant also “kissed” her on her genitals.

A Parker County Sheriff’s investigator contacted Cook Children’s Hospital’s Child Advocacy Resource and Evaluation team, according to the affidavit, and the girl was seen early the next morning by a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, who called the girl’s outcry credible.
