Let’s fast forward to a time when the Hebrews were held captive. Isaiah wrote of a coming freedom or deliverance. He wrote, “The spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Isaiah 61:1-2)
How exciting is that? The proclamation of Good News, binding up the brokenhearted, freedom for captives, release from prison. Wow!
But that’s not the end of it. When Jesus came to us, He put this all in motion for us. Not just once every 50 years, not only when we are held captive, but every day of our lives. We get to live in freedom. All we must do is to entrust our lives to Him. Jesus is the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father [God] but by Him. (John 14:6)
