PARKER COUNTY —
A man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Weatherford girl he met through the Internet was arrested Monday.
Jonathan Alexander Shannon, 20, of Weatherford, was arrested on a charge sexual assault of a child, a second degree felony.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit filed in Justice of the Peace Kelly Green’s court, a woman told police that she found text messages on a phone between a 14-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man that indicated he had entered the girl’s bedroom through her window and had sex with her.
The woman reportedly contacted Shannon via text message and told him that the girl was 14 years old. He admitted to having sex with the girl three times without protection, according to the affidavit, attributing it to “a lapse in judgment.”
Shannon reportedly told the Weatherford police investigator that he met the girl through a website called “Meet Me” and that they had sex four days after they met online.
He said the first two times he thought she was 16 years old because she told him she was, the affidavit states.
The third time she told him she was 14 and went to the Ninth Grade Center, the girl reportedly told the investigator.
Shannon remained in the Parker County Jail as of Wednesday evening with bond set at $50,000.
