A lot of new things are going on at Weatherford Christian School.
As a new school year began Thursday morning, both campuses welcomed a few new faces to administration, as well as a slew of new students.
Enrollment numbers are reportedly up compared to last year, with at least 50 students at each of the elementary and secondary campuses.
“We noticed a huge influx back in early spring when we started our early enrollment campaign in March,” Leslie Chalmers, director of development, said. “We’ve tried to really increase our marketing efforts because we believe that the more you can get out there, the more you see a return on your investments.”
Current enrollment for the 2013-14 year is 215 students.
With the growth in student population, Weatherford Christian School added a third section to its pre-kindergarten program, two sections to kindergarten, two to first grade and two to second grade, with third grade still self-contained.
At the secondary campus, Chalmers said the school is looking to expand for grades seven-12.
“We were just able to order our gym floor for the Greg Welch Gymnasium,” she said.
The gymnasium, built in 2010, was named in honor of Greg Welch, a leader in the cutting horse community and father of one of four Brock students killed in 1998 by a drunk driver.
Each girl has also been honored with a cross inside of the gymnasium.
“About eight donors stepped up and saw [the final process] through,” Chalmers said. “The floor is now in production and should be delivered within the next six weeks.
“The spirit right now and the love for the school is at an all-time high. The parents, students and staff are all very excited to start this new year with so many things in store.”
