Written confessions

Evans describes to investigators plan to kill older sister and grandparents; how he would feel ‘when he killed someone’

By CHRISTIN COYNE

A teen accused of shooting his mother and younger sister wrote in a confession introduced in court Wednesday that he had planned to kill his grandparents and older sisters, as well.

However, the teen wrote that the two killings turned out to be a “dreadful and terrifying” experience that will haunt him forever.

Jacob “Jake” Ryan Evans, 17, of Annetta South, remained in the Parker County Jail Thursday on a charge of capital murder. He is accused in the Oct. 4 shooting deaths of his mother, 47-year-old Jami Evans, and sister, 15-year-old Mallory Evans.

In the signed statement made public Thursday despite the objections of his court-appointed defense attorneys, Evans wrote shortly after the incident that he spent a portion of the afternoon before the killing watching - for the third time that week - Rob Zombie’s “Halloween,” which tells a story of a boy who murders his family members.

“While watching it, I was amazed at how at ease the boy was during the murders and how little remorse he had afterward,” Evans wrote. “Afterward, I was thinking to myself it would be the same for me when I kill someone.”

Evans described spending his time sitting or hitting golf balls in the yard that afternoon and evening, thinking about how he was going to kill his family.

“My plan was to kill my sister and my mom at my house and then go over to my grandparent’s house [on the same street] and kill my oldest sister, Emily, and my two grandparents,” Evans wrote. “Then I was going to wait until morning and kill my other sister, Audrey, because she was visiting from college.”

He’d had a dispute with his younger sister that day, calling her racist because of comments she made and telling her to research lynching, he wrote.
