Written confessions

Evans describes to investigators plan to kill older sister and grandparents; how he would feel ‘when he killed someone’

After retrieving his father’s folding knife, Evans described pacing back and forth as he imagined killing Mallory Evans.

“Thoughts of causing her pain kept entering my mind and were really bothering me,” Evans wrote. “But then I’d think about the time she hurt my feelings or really pissed me off.”

Evans stated he invited his sister to watch a movie with him and, at one point, stood in another room imagining killing his sister for about 30 minutes before joining her on the couch with the knife in his pocket. He then proceeded to initiate a playful pillow fight between the two, Evans wrote.

“After a while, I thought to myself that if I were to kill my mom and Mallory, I wouldn’t want them to feel anything,” Evans wrote. “So I decided to kill them both with the .22-revolver I stole from my Grandpa.”

After retrieving the weapon from his closet, “I then spent probably over an hour walking nervously around the house thinking how life will never be the same and how I would never see them again,” Evans wrote.

He said he then knocked on his sister’s door and told her that his mother wanted her.

“She came out and out of the corner of her eye saw me pointing the gun at her,” Evans described. “She thought I was joking and told me that I was freaking her out. I shot her in the back and then the head. I ran down to the study and shot my mom three times. In shock, I ran to my room and was screaming at the top of my lungs that I am really messed up and that I killed my mom and sister.”

Hearing noises, he realized his sister was still alive, Evans wrote.

“While I loaded the gun back up, I was shouting that I was sorry and then ran as fast as I could to kill her,” Evans wrote. “I then made sure my mom was dead and shot her again in the head.
