Sales tax collections show overall growth

January’s sales tax disbursements to local entities provided more welcome economic news – with Azle, Sanctuary and Parker County the exceptions.

Sales taxes distributed in January come from taxable retail sales made in November and reported to the state in December.

While collections were down for those three sales tax-levying governmental bodies, most other Parker County sales tax collectors showed healthy gains in their January receipts, compared to their January 2012 disbursements.

Weatherford saw a modest 1.1 percent increase in its January sales tax receipts, the smallest increase percentage wise. The largest was a whopping 700 percent increase realized by the City of Cool this month.

Aledo, Annetta, Millsap, Reno and Willow Park saw gains above 20 percent, while Springtown’s January collections were 6 percent over January 2012.

Azle’s January check was down just one-tenth of a percent, while Parker County saw a nearly 9 percent reduction. Sanctuary’s January check reflected a 50 percent drop.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said sales tax revenue reported to the state in December was $2.17 billion, up 9.4 percent.
