Buggy driver hurt, horse put down after being struck by car

The driver of a buggy struck by a vehicle Tuesday night on FM Road 1886 at Fossil Rock Drive was transported to the hospital by helicopter for possible serious injuries, according to DPS.

The buggy driver, Zeljko Negoovetic, around 63 years old, of Aledo, was crossing FM 1886 in a horse-drawn vehicle, which did not have reflectors, according to DPS spokesman Trooper Lonny Haschel.

Another person in the buggy reportedly got out and attempted to get traffic to slow down because it was dark.

However, a car came up and struck the horse and buggy, Haschel said.

There was no update on the driver’s condition Wednesday.

The owner of the horse came out and euthanized the horse, which suffered a broken leg and other injuries, according to Haschel.

Nobody in the car was reported injured.
