Hudson Oaks town hall meeting slated for Thursday

WEATHERFORD —

HUDSON OAKS — A town hall style meeting is scheduled Thursday evening for residents wishing to find out more information about the deer population in the city and how to coexist with them.

The discussion will be at the beginning of the regular city council meeting which begins at 7 p.m.  at City Hall on Lakeshore Drive. City Administrator Sheri Campbell-Husband said Jesse Oetgen, a technical guidance biologist, and urban wildlife biologist Brett Johnson with Texas Parks and Wildlife will be making a presentation on the deer population in the area. The pair met with Police Chief Brandon Mayberry several weeks ago and did a survey of the city and its deer population.

“With the city being in a wooded area, it’s only natural the deer would be there,” Campbell-Husband said. “We want to find out how we can best live in harmony without putting our safety at risk.”

Oetgen and Johnson will discuss their findings but also speak on how people can act and interact with them safely.

Residents and city council members alike have discussed the deer becoming increasingly unafraid of adults, including one instance where a deer followed a resident into his garage. Many residents have admitted to feeding the animals because they enjoy looking at them and having them around.

The information session is open to the public who are encouraged to ask questions and find out more about the deer in their area.
