Man critical after stabbing incident

By CHRISTIN COYNE

A dispute over property that involved multiple people, a shotgun and a knife led to a stabbing Wednesday night that left a Parker County man in the hospital in critical condition, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.

A man, whose name was not released by authorities, was transported by helicopter to a Fort Worth hospital where he was listed in critical condition as of Thursday morning after suffering multiple stab wounds, according to a statement from Sheriff Larry Fowler.

Deputies were called around 7:15 p.m. to a property in the 800 block of Nation Drive in far northeast Parker County after receiving a 911 call from a woman who said the land owner was assaulting her and a man who was attempting to retrieve a horse and property.

The man later told deputies that he had been called by the land owner to come remove the horse and items from the property, according to the sheriff’s office. The man reportedly brought several people with him to the scene, including the original caller, and began removing the property.

However, the female land owner began accusing the man of stealing her property, according to the sheriff’s office.

The caller reportedly told dispatchers that the land owner’s son was en route to the residence and may have a weapon.

Witnesses reported that when the land owner’s son arrived, he displayed a shotgun, pointing it at several people on scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

The horse owner and the land owner’s son then became involved in a physical altercation over the gun, the sheriff’s office reported. At some point, the gun was removed from the man but the fight reportedly continued and the land owner’s son was injured.

The horse owner admitted to stabbing the man during the altercation, Deputy Danie Huffman said.

The horse owner was detained and interviewed but later released, according to Huffman.

Many of the more than dozen people at the scene left when the man was transported to the hospital and investigators were attempting Thursday to track everybody down and get statements, Huffman said.

Charges are expected, Huffman confirmed.
