Poolville High School’s math team takes competition honors

POOLVILLE – The Poolville High School Math Team competed in San Antonio on March 9 at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association state competition.

Competing against 17 other 1A schools from across the state, PHS won second place in Calculator Applications, fifth place in Number Sense, seventh place in Math, and 11th in Science. 

Individuals in the senior division placing were: 

• Marcus Simmons – fifth place in Number Sense; sixth place in Calculator; eighth place in Mathematics; seventh place in Science; and fourth place in Senior “top gun” ($800 college scholarship).

• Kelsey Fulton – 12th place in Number Sense; ninth place in Calculator; 1ninth place in Mathematics; and 11th place in Science

In the junior division:

• Austin Huffman – fourth place in Number Sense; first place in Calculator (top 1A score); fourth place in  Mathematics; and 11th place in Science

• Mingyou Yang – eighth place in Number Sense; 10th place in Calculator; 12th place in Math; and 1ninth place in Science.

In the freshman division:

• Trey Thomas – first place in Number Sense; first  place in Calculator; fifth place in Math; and 20th place in Science.

The next contest is the district meet at Hico High School on March 25-26.
