Knights of Columbus supports Parker County R.E.A.C.T.

Members of the Knights of Columbus Holy Spirit Council 7264 John Achtyl, Norbert Stanislaw and Dale Bruchfield recently made a surprise visit to the Weatherford Police Department to present Parker County R.E.A.C.T. Coordinator Alecia Durham and R.E.A.C.T. Volunteer Linda Authier with a $500 donation to R.E.A.C.T.

This contribution will be utilized to provide materials for volunteer training academies and to assist with victim needs.

Many people likely have not heard of R.E.A.C.T., unless they have experienced a crisis in their life where law enforcement was called to help.

Weatherford Police Department and Freedom House work together to coordinate the Parker County Responding to Every Assault and Crisis Team (R.E.A.C.T.). Volunteers for R.E.A.C.T. are behind-the-scenes people helping law enforcement provide victims’ needs.

They provide comfort and support to those who have suffered a traumatic event. R.E.A.C.T. volunteers might be called out when a loved one has died whether from natural causes, a fatality accident, suicide, etc.  They might be asked to help watch children when officers are talking with parents or waiting for Child Protective Services. Volunteers might be requested to provide transportation to local shelters, hospitals, or law enforcement offices to victims of domestic abuse or sexual assault.

To learn more about R.E.A.C.T., visit the website www.parkercountyreact.com.

The Parker County Responding to Every Assault and Crisis Team thanked the Knights of Columbus for its kindness and support.
