County treasurer dies of apparent heart attack

From Staff Reports

The death of Parker County Treasurer Jim Thorp came suddenly Tuesday.

Thorp, 50, died of an apparent heart attack early Tuesday afternoon after walking into Tri Cities Urgent Care Clinic in Willow Park with chest pains where he collapsed, staff at the treasurer’s office have confirmed.

He was reportedly headed out to have lunch in the Aledo/Willow Park area.

Thorp, who would have turned 51 on May 5, was pronounced dead at Weatherford Regional Medical Center. He had no known heart problems, Parker County Treasurer Chief Deputy Dawn Norfleet said, but his father also died at a young age of heart-related problems.

A resident of Aledo, Thorp worked for the county since 1994. His wife, Zan, is a teacher at Stuard Elementary in the Aledo ISD.

Thorp’s funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Aledo United Methodist Church, at the corner of Oak and Pecan Streets in Aledo.

Prompted by the sudden death, Parker County Commissioners met in emergency session Wednesday to authorize Chief Deputy Dawn Norfleet to temporarily oversee operations until commissioners determine a long-term solution
