Authorities confirmed a teenager struck by a vehicle on Interstate 20 east of the Mikus Road exit in Willow Park Wednesday afternoon was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a Fort Worth hospital.

Officials did not release the teen’s name Thursday.

A DPS spokesman said a preliminary fatality report, typically completed within 24 hours of a fatal wreck, had not been completed and additional information was not available.

However, Aledo ISD confirmed the teen was a student with the district, and several Aledo High School students identified the teen on social media sites as a special needs student who once ran track.

The young Willow Park resident was crossing the eastbound lanes on foot from the south side of the highway toward the median around 3:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle in the outside lane, according to Willow Park Police Chief Brad Johnson.

CPR was started before emergency responders arrived on scene, Johnson said.

The vehicle driver stopped immediately, remained on scene and cooperated in the investigation, according to authorities.

Authorities have not released information on what led up to the teen’s death or why officials believe he was crossing the highway.
