POLICE BLOTTER: Pair found asleep inside running, in-gear vehicle arrested

Following are some of the offenses, investigations and calls for service reported by the Weatherford Police Department for the period 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday:

Asleep at the wheel

A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday morning after they were reportedly sleeping inside a car that was in gear with the engine running on a roadway.

Officers said they found the four-door Ford Focus about 7:40 a.m. stopped in the 1100 block of Palo Pinto Street. Police the male driver and a female occupant were “unresponsive.”

Jordan Heath Ashcraft, 25, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction for that charge, while Hailey Marie Aparicio, 22, was arrested for public intoxication.

Vehicle theft

A man reported his 1995 black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was stolen sometime between 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday from a parking lot in the 2200 block of Clear Lake Road. The truck was valued at $1,500.

Sign damaged

A man said someone damaged a road sign in his yard in the 2100 block of Trace Ridge Drive sometime between June 19 and July 3. The sign is 8x12 feet in size, double faced, mounted on two 4x4 metal posts. The man estimated the cost to replace the sign at approximately $3,500.

False report

An 18-year-old male called police about 10 p.m. Wednesday to report his 2004 Oldsmobile had been stolen from a store parking lot in the 1800 block of South Main Street.

However it was determined the vehicle was not stolen, but rather the teen had allowed friends to borrow the vehicle, which had been involved in a pursuit with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office. PCSO said the passengers in the vehicle fled on foot after the vehicle crashed. The three suspects that fled were later arrested by PCSO.

The teen allegedly admitted to police he filed a false police report to cover for his friends who were involved in the pursuit. A false report to a police officer complaint was made.
