HUDSON OAKS — Work continues fast and furious on the Splash Kingdom Wild West WaterPark here, scheduled for completion later this spring.

Many of the physical buildings have been put up, with inside work being completed on park offices, ticket areas, locker rooms and the like, according to Interim City Administrator Patrick Lawler. Lawler said a lot of insulation is being put up with drywall to be done this week on many of the buildings.

Lawler said much of the physical construction work was completed last week, with touchups remaining. While it may not look like much to the untrained eye, work has been progressing very quickly since the January ground breaking.

Concrete work for the canyon walls has been completed with sidewalks to be poured in the coming days. Artists have been working on some stone work in the concrete to make it look weathered like in the Old West, Lawler said.

Further concrete work is expected to go quick with the dry weather. Last week’s rains helped with some fertilizer which had been put down in the grassy areas.

Once the concrete work is finished on the wave and kiddie pools, art work will be completed on them as well. The actual steel work on the slides is also in the process of being completed with the slides having been delivered and ready to be installed for such rides as the Snakepit.

“We’re kind of doing them in sections as well like the 7th Street Bridge in Fort Worth,” Lawler said.

Lawler also showed a pair of 20 horsepower pumps which moves the water throughout the park. One of the pumps is exclusively for water movement with the other for the wave pool. Lawler said due to the pumps the amount of water being used by the park will be the equivalent to what is used by 10-15 residential swimming pools.

No exact date of completion has been set yet but hiring is still going on, espcially in the food and customer service areas, park officials said recently. Applications can be brought to the trailer next to the water park adjacent to the back of the City Lights Theater.
