Firewise Landscaping seminar in June

Weatherford Democrat

— As we all know from the Possum Kingdom fire of 2012, Parker and neighboring counties are prime examples of an area where the wildfire threat is extremely high.

Residents, especially newcomers, need to know about wildfires and understand the steps they can take, as individuals or through their homeowners associations, to lessen this threat.

Firewise Landscaping does both. On June 27, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service of Parker County, in cooperation with the Parker County Master Gardeners, will provide a 90-minute seminar to address the threat of wildfires and how damage can be mitigated using Firewise Landscaping methods.

Whether you live in a remote area of the county, in a subdivision or in the heart of Weatherford, there are steps you can take in your landscape to improve the defensibility of your home to fires. The seminar will be held at the Extension Office, 604 N. Main St., beginning at 7 p.m. A class fee of $10 will cover the costs of handouts and other supplies. To register, contact the Parker County Extension Office at 817-598-6168.
