Suspect reportedly kills self during standoff

A man reportedly killed himself during a standoff with law enforcement Friday afternoon.

A subject barricaded himself inside a residence in the area of Fourth Street between Hanover and Main when police attempted to serve an assault arrest warrant, according to department spokesman.

Officers launched tear gas into the residence in order to force the suspect out. SWAT team members then donned gas masks and entered the residence. No suspect came out. Investigators were then seen going inside.

A police spokesman confirmed the victim's identity as John Cody Etheredge, a 29-year-old white male. Police said he died of an "apparent" self-inflicted wound.
