The workshop will cost $100 for the two-day, 10-hour class. Deadline for registration is Aug. 13. If for some reason the workshop is cancelled, all monies will be returned. Participants will be using oil paints on canvas or paper (their choice). Bateman will be discussing and demonstrating the use of the color wheel to determine color choices in a painting and will discuss color theory.

Participants are to bring their own supplies, which include the following: a color wheel, oil paints (cadmium red, alizarin crimson, phthalo blue, ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow med., hansa yellow light, lemon yellow, titanium white, ivory black, burnt umber and burnt sienna), assorted brushes, paper towels and a trash bag, odorless turpentine, containers for wash out, soft drawing pencils or charcoal, sketch pad for initial composition and a reference photo.

A resident of Weatherford, Bateman started her art career at Oklahoma State University, Texas Woman’s University and Weatherford College. Her successful 25-year career as a commercial artist and fashion illustrator lends confidence to her control of design and technique.

She credits perfecting her skills with private lessons from some of the nations most well known artists, including Rod Riddick, Neil Boyle, Jim Wilcox, Louis Escobedo, Zhang Wen Zin, and renowned portrait painters Bettina Steinke and Daniel Green.

Jan was honored by the “Pastel Society of America” with a scholarship to the ”Art Students League of New York” and has received many other awards for her pastel and portrait work.
