MILLSAP MATTERS: Kudos to teachers for Jack Harvey honors

By SHARRON HUDSON

MILLSAP – As we all know our schools are imperative to our children, and within those schools there must be good teachers. Millsap and the surrounding school districts are blessed with such educators, and some of them were recently honored by the Weatherford College Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers with a fellowship recognition award.

The college established these awards in honor of Professor Harvey, who was known among his peers and students as a “master teacher.”

The academy recognizes commendable teachers in the college’s service area. Each district selects its own exemplary teacher and submits the nomination to the academy. The recipients were recently honored with a celebration at Doss Heritage and Culture Center.

There were 32 educators recognized from across the region. Fellowships were awarded to the following in our closest area schools: Nicole Andermann-Millsap; Faith James-Brock; Marylynn Roever-Garner; Vicki Gregory-Mineral Wells; and Jeina Dunn-Weatherford. Congratulations to all of these worthy recipients!

February is Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart Month and is sponsored by the American Heart Association. Our elementary school has supported this important event for many years, and the students are looking forward to participating this year. Cardiovascular diseases affect many Americans each day and the AHA is dedicated to educating the nation on a healthier lifestyle. Besides the fun of jumping rope and shooting hoops for donations to the AHA, the students are being taught lessons regarding the working of the heart and proper nutrition for heart health. A wonderful endeavor with far reaching positive effects.

Our neighbors at Brock recently enjoyed a benefit held to assist families in need in their community. Students of the Brock National Honor Society held their first annual Brock Benefit. With servant leadership in mind the event was created to help two families who recently experienced unfortunate losses. The program consisted of an auction and concert. Many students, school employees, and community members enjoyed performances by Brock graduate Colin Cooper and Brock junior Bailey Cockburn. The event was a great success for a worthy cause.
