Suspect shot in gunfire exchange with police

Two men lead White Settlement police on chase into Parker County that ends north of Aledo

By CHRISTIN COYNE

A man who, police say, exchanged fire with a White Settlement police officer twice during a pursuit in Parker County Tuesday morning was reported to be in stable condition after being shot.

The pursuit began in the 800 block of South Cherry Lane in White Settlement around 10:30 a.m. when officers went to a home to attempt to serve a parole violation warrant, according to White Settlement Police Lt. JP Bevering.

“The suspect had taken off in a vehicle and had ended up in a pursuit,” Bevering said. “It left White Settlement going west on I-30 into Parker County.”

Bevering said the vehicle exited Interstate 20 west of its I-30 interchange at the Aledo exit.

“When the vehicle exited on Farm-to-Market 3325, the vehicle spun out and, at that point, the driver of the vehicle started shooting at our officers and our officers returned fire at him,” Bevering said.

The suspect went north on FM 3325, also known as Farmer Road, in the vehicle for about three-quarters of a mile when he wrecked out, according to White Settlement police.

“Once he wrecked out, more gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was struck,” Bevering said.

The suspect was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon and was reported to be in stable condition. Police did not release information regarding the man’s injuries.

No officers were injured.

A passenger in the vehicle was uninjured and was taken into custody on warrants, police said.

A tow truck driver said the vehicle was upside down in the grass when he arrived.

The Aledo Volunteer Fire Department and the Parker County Sheriff’s Office closed Farmer Road to traffic between the north interstate service road and Old Weatherford Road from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as Texas Ranger Anthony Bradford, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, the Weatherford Police Advanced Accident Team and other law enforcement officers investigated.
